Smogon Premier League!

Im just wondering is anybody going to watch this and if so who do you think is going to win?

For those who do not know what this is:

In recent weeks, hype has been building in the community over one of the most highly anticipated tournaments in Smogon's history: The Smogon Premier League. The SPL sees Smogon's best battlers formed into teams to take each other on in a "Best of Eight Battles" match-up each week. Teams earn points for winning and are placed in a League format. With metagames from every generation involved, managers need to think long and hard about covering all areas of competitive battling: a team containing eight of the best DP OU battlers probably won't fare too well in this environment.

Managers select their players in an auction format from a pool of over 200 potential players, and if they manage to outbid all of the competition, then the player will be added to their roster. This new and relatively untested method of selection proved to be frantic and unpredictable in the early stages, with some fantastic players being snapped up for next to nothing, while other lesser known players went for extortionate amounts in the final few days as managers desperately tried to spend their remaining money to fill their rosters. With the bidding over and rosters finalized at the start of the season, the result is ten highly competitive and evenly matched teams.

In this article we'll be taking a brief look at each team's initial roster for week 1, and doing our best to catch the managers for a quick word before the start of the season.

We should have something like that here. Of coarse it wouldn't be as big or anything, but it would be pretty fun.

if we had support from some famuse youtubers like gigatitan or Thekillernacho and forums and cland like Sacred dragons i think we could pull off a large turnout, with people who want to join sending in 3 logs or videos of battles they've had so that when we start up bidding we'd know how good everyone was, at least a little bit. it would be something like 6 teams of 8, so thats 48 in all with more or less on each team as the bidding goes. Rounds aginst other teams would be that you pick one or more players(s) for each tier, with OU, UU, Ubers, and past gen or NU for the rest. The tourney would be points based so that even if your team loses one round, they still have a chance to advance like in the world cup. What do you think? its a long shot but it could work if we get their attention. Besides that we could have people like Gaia or now Dnb Areo to do emblems.

Each team doesn't make tournaments... They all face each other

i think im going to start this thing up. however, since we are going to need as many players as possible, we should try to go to other forums and youtube channels and ask them to help gather up players. we should disscuss wheather to ask them to come to Uuttitan to sign up as players or managers or do so in the their own forum and video that they post. Dose anyone want to help me head this? it'll be a lot of work. we would also need to figure out how the managers recruit players- either via bids with each manager getting a certain amount of money, or a draft system. i can write up what you need to be a manager( by write up i mean steal from the smogon forums with edits here and there). should we start his up or not?

To be honest, I think it's more work than it's worth... I for one am most likely not going to lead this thing... maybe just be in it.

If you do actually start this thing, money is better than drafts because it gives everyone an even chance to get some good players and players they want on their team... Randomizing everything will make teams much more uneven

I'll help out with getting it started. I know of a couple of forums that may have people that will enter. I think we should create a sign up here on the uuttitan forums, and have everyone that wants to enter, sign up and post their entry.

Also, money would be pretty interesting. Have the managers started with a certain amount and have them bid for team members.

yeah, if you check out the smogon forums they have a lot of info that we could just flat out copy to make it easier for us, with some changes of course. If this is to get off the ground during the bidding process we'd have to have someone online all day to make sure that the highest bids for players are shown at all times, with new players being added as their bidded for. i think to make this all easier for us we should have every entry come here and post in the threads we will be making. dose that sound good?

EDIT: a little plus to all of this is that if we manage to pull this off then we can maybe expand these forums a bit because of all the new users that would come.

EDIT: i will post the rules and stuff in the wi-fi leaguse section IF i get somebody who can run bidding over a whole day in maybe 2 weeks, though the deatils arent quite thought out yet.
