| I use 400 x 200... It's what I was always told to do. :3 And thanks, the Mudkip one was a little frustrating to make look good. | |

| Try 375x125, and try to add a bit of ''flow'' | |

| Flow, for example, Hariyama is a moderatly calm and spiritualistic pokemon so I added a calm mountain background to make it fit...For his backgrounds he usualy just puts on a random picture | |

Good point. Although I tend to use colours from the characters and make my own background. ;3

| I'm not going to say you don't put a lot of effort into them, but you need to put more in. The backgrounds are either one bulk color or some sort of smudge / etc. Using Photoshop or GIMP you can do so much more with the background its insane. You just need to play around and try a bit more.
That and fractals / C4Ds make everything. Sure if you over abuse them they really ruin the picture, but the right amount of them can really bring it out more and make it more visually appealing.

| You need to layer. It seems that you barely even are doing different things with brushes. You either smudge, or do a basic gradient. | |

| When I first stated I always did a solid color background and then scribled over it with the burn tool. Like the background for my emerald sig. | |

| They're better, but, to be honest, it looks like a background, a filter, and random smudging with colors, with the render and text, of course. | |
