But on a serious note... Sh*t happens. The Oil company is trying it's best to stop any further spread of this, give it time. I vant beleive you actually said that. Lets see, how to put it, how to put it? Oh, I know. THIS IS THE WORST ENVIROMENTAL CATASTROPHE EVER. A stupid company worried about making some extra millions caused in a freaking month what could take literally centuries to recover, in fact, the scale is so big it could take thousands of years before theres a 100% recovery. And you tell me they are doing the best they can? You wanna know how much money they donated? A million bucks....yeah, thank you F BP for destroying the enviroment for the rest of our lifes and that of our future children and grandchildren because you couldnt afford to give proper maintenance to your faulty oil rigs That my friend is how the entire gulf coast feels

| This still brings the question, how the HELL is oil apparently scarce, we can't stop getting it, so BP? why do you charge so much for all this oil that is so frekin abundant. But thats an issue for another time, BP needs to fix this mess and pay its dues. | |

| There are many complexities when it comes to oil prices, Pialga. To name a few, greed... tension between countries....... greed.
Wonderful world we live in, ain't it?

| Breaking News! Goldman Sachs had gotten rid of 44% of it's stock in BP right before the oil spill! I'm smelling something suspicious. | |

| Maybe, but let's patch up the leak before we get the blame game started up.
While it may be suspicious, focus on the task at hand. Investigate later.

| TNCs, they giveth with one hand and taketh with the other. Although this event has been catastrophic for many of those nearby, it is actually likely to prompt much better future regulation of the industry as a whole; and that has got to be seen as a positive.
Another positive is that the fiasco may help ever so slightly dent the monopoly BP had made in the oil industry, although if you thought petrol/gas prices were high now...well, something like this isn't going to help that.
What it WILL NOT do is cut jobs. If anything, more jobs will be made within the legislation side of the oil industry itself. Obviously this is partly countered by the loss in fishing that I assume will happen, but even the oil spill itself creates jobs for environmental scientists, cleanup operators and other green initiatives.
All I'm trying to say is that there are 2 distinct sides to this coin and it is not all good or all bad.

| Wow Dan, I pretty much entirely agree with you.
The part that actually upsets me is the wildlife... I can't stand turning on the TV and seeing a bird or turtle coated in oil. Like I said, PRAY FOR A MIRACLE!

| Unfortunately, this oil probably won't even quit gushing from the the broken pipe until August (since drilling a relief well is the only surefire way to stop the leak). Cleaning up the oil could take many, many months, and the damage to the marshes and beaches could last for decades. I do believe that BP is putting in a considerable effort to stop the leak, but the problem is that the leaking pipe is a mile below the surface. It's so cold down there and the water pressure is immense, which complicates many efforts to stop the leak. My heart goes out to all the families that have been forced to quit their jobs due to the gushing man-made volcano. Hopefully BP will be signing $50,000 checks to those families - since BP is actually doing pretty well economically, at the moment. I sure hope this thing can get patched up before August, though. The spill is already the biggest in world history, and it's only getting bigger all the time. | |

| This is pretty stupid. I just feel sorry for all the fishes that have been dying. I hope they Adapt to the oil, but not get mutated from it.
I'm also wondering... If they can't even fix this problem up, how long will it take to reach Maine?

| A few forecast models have the oil getting caught in a loop current in the Gulf of Mexico, which would then feed some oil in the Gulf Stream along the east coast. The way I see it, though, is that any oil that does get caught in those currents won't be as thick and dense as the oil that's near the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. I think there's a good chance that the leaks may be controllable once the relief well is finished in August. So as long as that goes out as planned, I don't think Maine should receive any serious impact, if any, from the oil. | |

| They can; but the oil isn't just plain crude oil when it's on the water - other materials tend to mix in, making it clumpy and dirty. Besides, there's more oil leaking than people can collect. | |

| Then why not scooping a ton of oil, then putting it in a dome or somthing, then burning it? The oil's gone. it could be safe and could work, and won't pollute the air. | |

Exactly. It's so thoroughly mixed with the water that they will be unable to scoop it out, without, effectively, scooping a huge chunk of the water out of the Gulf.

Actually, yes. For a while they tried to shoot mud into the valve to stop the leak, but they were unsure if that would work, and, if it would, they would have to shoot it slowly for fear of the pipe bursting, so it wouldn't be done until August, and they still may have had other difficulties with it. At this point, they gave up and are now actually trying to cap it.

| Well, even though you are only 11, you do have the right to sue them. The only problem is that even if you were to do it, youd be facing a trans-national company with more attorney than members your family | |

| Unless they harmed him specifically, such as family members being hurt, people losing job as a result of the spill, etc., he has no right to sue them. Given how far away he is from the actual spill, anything would be unlikely that he could hold up a reasonable argument for. He COULD sue them, but apart from are of BP's lawyers, his reason for suing would get him crushed in court.
BTW, SSHG, they're not giving up, they are trying a simpler, better approach to the matter, instead of doing the initial plan that had been made.

I know Elfar, I was kinda saying I hope they get sued for all the damage they have done. I'm not actually going to take the time to sue them and study all that law stuff.
