| http://wii.ign.com/articles/110/1106059p1.html The Courts in California are trying to stop the sale of "viloent" games to minors. The little speech below is a comment made by one of igns readers on the issue, and it is representitive of what i think of the whole thing. - Quote :

Well..To clarify this law a little...People who don't know much about it will undoubtedly look at it and say..oh well? and Who cares...But here's the thing. The Law does not really clarify what they mean by violent...So what we consider to be teen games could very well end up on that list...as a matter of fact, even kids games like that old school mikey mouse game for the NES could end up on it...it has violence in it..alot of it.
It's not specified well enough...they're not saying, mature games...they're saying violent games...Uncharted 2 is violent, very, very violent..and it's rated Teen. Then you have to look at where it goes from there...they put these games behind lock and key..and then, they make it like porn. You have to go to an entirely new section. So much work...
Many developers will be forced to give up on their image of the game they're working on in order for it to get into the right category...Then, they may just take it a step further and ban the games.
once games are no longer protected under the first amendment new laws can come up and do whatever they want. This will have far reaching consequences that all gamers should be alarmed about. What do you think about the issue? | |

| This still doesn't stop minors from playing them. It the parents fault for buying the children and teenagers games that they are not applicable for. But we all do it anyway quite frankly. I just think Arnie wants to do all the killing sprees these days. | |

| Isn't it already illegal to sell M rated games to minors, so there shouldn't need to be a new law | |

| The law is pretty appropriate. Like, 10 year old boys can't go out and buy M games. Big deal. Their parents can buy it or be with them when they buy it and the parents give consent. :/ There's not too much to discuss. | |

| yeah, but this applies to all violent games, not just M ones. Like Uncharted 2, that game is teen, bur its violent, so even if you were of age you would still have to bring your parent unless you werent a minor. | |

| Well alcohol is illegal to minors and that doesn't stop them. This law will be avoided completely so no matter how stupud it is, it's a law so it won'tt be taken seriously by some | |

| Haha. If this law is passed and enforced. Bye-Bye Call of Duty games. Considering more than half of their sales are to people under the age of 17 (The age required to buy mature games) me being one of them. Plus side of living in Ohio. Their slow to pass laws. | |

| I think there are broader concepts here to contend with, such as the arbitrary concept of only allowing "mature" content to be available to 18-year-olds and the question: "Are video games protected by the 1st amendment? | |
